There is a new player on the Michigan health insurance scene and that is UniCare Health Insurance, a WellPoint subsidiary. UniCare has just begun to bring their new product designs into the state. Expect the popular Sound product sometime later this year.
UniCare is famous for rate stability, what that means is their prices don't trend up much at renewal. If you have ever gotten a 40% health insurance increase you realize the value of a company whose rates on deductilbes over $1000 only went up zero to one percent last year. UniCare charges the same rate to new policy holders as it charges to existing policy holders, that helps keep rates down.
UniCare is part of the WellPoint family of companies which operate 14 different BCBS markets. UniCare is their non Blue Company which goes into compete with the Blue's.
As far as plan design goes the UniCare Fit plans are the perfect family plan featuring unlimited dr visits, and drug cards. The UniCare HSA's has proven to be a popular option in Michigan. Next up will be the UniCare Sound Plan designed for young singles 18-45 years old.
